Karl Bielik

Karl Bielik has exhibited in his hometown of London as well as in Prague, Lisbon and New York.

Bielik’s multilayered paintings offer simple visual puns alongside extracts of dark and upbeat stories. Deliberate marks, carefully selected materials and specific texts lie behind these melodic works paying homage to the influences of Cohen, Carver, Schnabel, Rothko and Schwitters. These large scale visceral and lyrical musings on daily life are tinged with initial contradictions and disassociated themes, on closer inspection the partially hidden elements reveal further possible dialogues and extracts from personal experiences. Textiles, spray paint, oils, household gloss, text and photocopies are a few of the elements that sit together with found ephemera in these vacuum-packed, refined, albeit urban paintings.
