Q&A with Sierra Brown
Sierra Brown, a Cal State Long Beach student, swam 11 miles through the ports to her campus as part of an art project. Brown thought up the "Port To Class Supercommute" as a way of encouraging people to get out of their cars and take alternative forms of transportation. Check out our Q&A with Sierra.

“Selling the Shadow” is a group exhibition hosted by Pochron Studios and curated by the Brooklyn Art Collective featuring six emerging artists who explore the concessions and demands they encounter daily to survive the working world in order to realize their artistic potential and personal goals. The original works, including sculpture, painting, and photography, explore the notion that young contemporary artists often support that which forms the fodder of their inner consciousness by selling their talents for a lesser cause in hopes to one day accomplish a greater good and see their lofty aspirations realized. The exhibition opens at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at The Pochron Studio Gallery on the 11th Floor of 20 Jay St. in D.U.M.B.O. After Party with drink specials at ReBar at Front and Jay with Rocket Surgery, Like Vultures, and Ninjasonik. Code-D and Rev. McFly spinning tunes. to the wee hours.

Q&A with The Other Woman, an Art Collective
Check out our interview with The Other Woman: LINK
(PHILADELPHIA): Debutante Set, an exhibition of new artwork by the members of The Other Woman (a ladies art collective) to be featured at Mew Gallery in South Philadelphia, is the premier exhibition of the fledgling ladies art collective. The show will feature work from each of the group's four members, giving the public their first opportunity to view the drawings and installations of Aubrie Costello, the photography of Laura Graham, the sculpture of Darla Jackson, and the drawings and paintings of Laura McKinley within one space. From quietly contemplative to darkly cinematic, the exhibited works strive to pull into focus that which lies at the fringe of vision.
Overall, Debutant Set is, as the show's title suggests, a coming out of four female artists, each using distinctive materials to talk about individual obsessions, and using the concepts their works share to make their ideas speak stronger and louder. Their voices overlap to form a complex conversation on the challenges and opportunities they face everyday as twenty-something women. With distinct histories and particular mentalities, these artists are wrestling growth while moving forward.
The exhibition opened on September 22nd and runs through November 2.
Mew Gallery is located at 906 Christian Street, Philadelphia, PA. 215.625.2424
