Laura Prieto-Velasco

Laura Prieto-Velasco has been working as a metalsmith for the past 10 years. Originally from Philadelphia, she spent some time in California, and is now trying on the Midwest for size. Laura's been focusing on jewlery/sculpture/installation) and living in Chicago (the Bucktown/Wicker Park area). Back in CA, Laura worked part-time as a 60's go-go dancer for "Rewind" and "Orange Kiss," but these days she's turned her attentions to learning how to flamenco dance and she's currently working at the Art Institute of Chicago as a Light Metals Technician for the Sculpture Department. She has taught workshops on a variety of topics such as casting natural materials and 3-D digital media. [Read more here.]
